I write some fiction and some non-fiction and some poetry sometimes. I try to make a habit of just writing down whatever's in my head; sometimes it's true stuff, sometimes not. Below are some excerpts. The first is a short story and the second is a non-fiction work in progress.
Lovers at the Dam
June and me were strolling the path along top of the dam minding our own business. Two boys in a boat were fishing not far off the dam and I called out to them, "Any luck?" I was thinking of bringing my grandson fishing and wanted to know if he'd catch any. They pulled up a stringer with a few small catfish, nothing big. June knelt for a daffodil and said, "It doesn't matter, he just likes to sit in the boat." I walked on ahead while June fussed with the flowers. Buddy, our dog, had run ahead and was halfway down the path that ran along the spillway. He stopped, looking at something over the edge. I caught up to him and that's when I seen them.
Body Work
Steve Gamblin is going to stick his finger up my nose. He'll pull on a glove, lube it, violate one nostril and then the other. And the nose is not even his final destination. My nose, as far as Steve's work is concerned, is in the way. He's only using it to get somewhere, somewhere deep. And so getting a bean on his fingers was foremost on my mind when meeting Steve for the first time.
you have things to say
As an employee of Indiana University I craft press releases for all things supercomputing—hardware and software and the research it enables. On various technology and research subjects I also write and edit speeches, scripts and articles for a variety of audiences. So I can help you edit what you have, or sit down and gather information from you interview-style and write it for you.
